Just a painter trying to find my way back to art

I graduated from SCAD as a painter and began teaching art to students of all ages. Shortly there after I had my first child and loved being a mom so much I decided to have 3 more. It turns out that growing and raising little humans is a lot of work! So I moved from Georgia to Iowa to be closer to my family.

Although I had some commissions and paintings between now and then, overall I couldn’t seem to find the time to practice my art consistently. Now that my children are older, I am making the time to do what I have always loved, make art!

I enjoy painting in two different styles depending on the medium I use. When painting with watercolor I enjoys painting loose, vibrant florals.  When painting with acrylic I often paints plants and flowers in a flattened, stencil like way, playing with color and composition. I am also interested in the meaning of plants and flowers and use plant symbolism in a lot of my paintings.  I am enjoying experimenting with different mediums and styles while I find my way back to painting.

My most recent achievement was winning the Peoples Choice Award for my painted piano for City Sounds Des Moines.
